NOTE: The "50% exemption" referred to in the review response to the county is found in the 2012 IECC. The governing code is the 2012 VECC, which does not have this language in Chapter 1. Therefore the code requires that these areas be designed and built to satisfy the review comment.
Several rooms appear to require an occupancy sensor that will meet the requirements of section C405.2.2.2 of the 2012 Virginia Energy Conservation Code (VECC). All conference/meetings rooms restrooms and other spaces 300 square feet or less must be fitted with an occupancy sensor that shut off all non-emergency lighting within 30 minutes of all occupants leaving the space. In the resubmission, for all spaces with new lighting, such as restrooms and possibly the meeting rooms (it is unclear if these rooms will or will not have new lighting) show an occupancy sensor or sensors that meet the requirements of section C405.2.2.2. In addition, provide a note on the drawing that describes the sequence of operation for the occupancy sensor. For example, if the sensor will be manual-on and automatic-off after 30 minutes of all occupants leaving the space, state that sequence on the drawings. For automatic-on and automatic-off occupancy sensors, refer to section C405.2.2.2 of the 2012 VECC and include a sequence of operation that meets the requirements of that section of the code.
